Not the whole world, of course. While the global warming crowd demands that you give up your SUV for a Smart Car deathtrap and stop taking vacations and flying on planes, they ride in limousines from their mansions to their Gulfstream jets; and go to places like the Sundance Film Festival in the south of France to talk about the need for the rest of us to give up modern life.
It was at the Sundance Festival exactly ten years ago that Mr. Gore said today would be the day we would be “past the point of no return.” Well, the clock has run out and despite all the hysteria, the Kyoto Accords, and even Obama’s climate summit in France last month, nothing has been done to significantly curb emissions of carbon dioxide - this supposedly deadly “pollutant” that you are exhaling as you read this.
The Chinese are building coal-fired power plants faster than we build skyscrapers and the dreaded carbon dioxide - required for all plant life - is still with us. Since Al made his prediction of doom, the movement has been re-branded as “Climate Change” since the catastrophic warming never materialized. Moreover, the term climate change is much more flexible; any seemingly anomalous weather event can now be pointed too with a shriek of “SEE? CLIMATE CHANGE!”
Through the later years of the 2010’s Al told us that the polar ice cap would vanish by 2013. Since that time the cap has increased in size by fifty percent, the global temperature has fallen steadily since 1998, and the polar bears have stubbornly refused to drown.
In the 1970’s we were told by an earlier generation of Machiavellian control freaks that we were on the verge of a new ice age, and that without turning over all our freedom to the planners, human civilization would end in ten to fifteen years. The Al Gore of the 1970’s, Paul Ehrlich predicted, among other things;
· “Population will inevitably and completely outstrip whatever small increases in food supplies we make…the death rate will increase until at least 100-200 million people per year will be starving to death during the next ten years.”
· “Most of the people who are going to die in the greatest cataclysm in the history of man have already been born…by [1975] some experts feel that food shortages will have escalated the present level of world hunger and starvation into famines of unbelievable proportions. Other experts, more optimistic, think the ultimate food-population collision will not occur until the decade of the 1980s.”
· Between 1980 and 1989, some 4 billion people, including 65 million Americans, would perish in the “Great Die-Off.”
The new Ice Age has been slow in coming, and there have been no mass starvation of billions; despite the fact that the world population has more than doubled. Who could forget play-actor hunk and amateur doomsayer Ted Danson’s 1988 proclamation that the world’s oceans would be completely dead in ten years? Here we are 28 years later and Ted and his Hollywood pals are still dining on unlimited lobster at $5,000-a-plate political fundraisers.
Since Big Al’s prediction, the global warming movement was exposed as the greatest hoax in history, when the emails from East Anglia University were hacked and released to the public. They showed how the scientists, lied, manipulated data, and undermined dissenting colleagues to “prove” the world was going to burn.
Still, the devotees of global warming remain undeterred, renaming their hoax climate change, and clamoring ever more hysterically than ever for control over our lives to halt the impending disaster. They dismiss any who question them as “deniers” and repeat the same lines about “settled science” and a “consensus” among scientists.
They will never tell you about the more than 4,000 scientists who signed the Heidelberg Appeal against the rampant pseudoscience surrounding the issue. Likewise for the Oregon Petition, the Leipzig Declaration, and The Statement by Atmospheric Scientists on Greenhouse Warming – cumulatively bearing the signatures of more than 35,000 climatologists and meteorologists, including 72 Nobel Prize winners who deny the existence of man-made global warming. Neither will Al Gore’s disciples heed the words of Reid Bryson, the “Father of Climatology” and the founding chairman of the meteorology department at the University of Wisconsin (A well-know haven for liberals) who has stated with regard to global warming,
“…there is no credible evidence that it is due to mankind and carbon dioxide. We've been coming out of a Little Ice Age for 300 years...It's been warming up for a long time.”
Global warming/climate change hype is nothing more than a tool for further dismantling the American way of life; what one writer termed “socialism’s Trojan Horse.” One clue is the myth’s leading proponents – a rouge’s gallery of leftists and communists; including Al Gore, Mikhail Gorbachev, and the late Muammar Al Qadhafi. All have all written books on the evils of capitalist carbon emissions and the dire consequences that await us all. If the leaders of the Global Warming movement don’t convince you of the true agenda, read the Kyoto Protocols, which require “developed” countries (Namely the United States) to vastly reduce their emissions of carbon dioxide, while “developing” nations like India and China can continue to spew enormous amounts into the atmosphere. And, in true Marxist fashion, the agreement requires the “developed” nations to help pay the costs of emissions-reducing measures in the less-fortunate countries.
Adopting the provisions of Kyoto would place crushing burdens on American industries. The politicians who decry American jobs being sent overseas are same ones who push for unfair agreements like Kyoto, which would drive more companies abroad, where they would not be subject to such harsh regulation.
While people like Al Gore and Ted Danson are comical, the movement they and their allies are pushing on the rest of us is dangerous in the extreme - as are many of the true believers. Rhode Island Senator Sheldon Whitehouse and, more recently, a group of university researchers, have asked Obama to put opponents of global warming hype in prison using the federal RICO statutes.
The global warming charlatans are not only anti-capitalist, and anti-freedom, but essentially anti-human. The latest trend among the greens in Europe is having themselves sterilized to avoid “contaminating” the planet with any more humans. Time Magazine ran a story in May 2008 with the headline, “Growing Up Green. No way around it: your child is an environmental disaster.” The article begins,
“Want to wreck the environment? Have a baby. Each bundle of joy gobbles up more of the planet’s food, clogs garbage dumps with diapers, churns through plastic toys, and winds up a gas-guzzling, resource-consuming grown up like the rest of us.”
I don’t view my children as “environmental disasters.” No matter what nonsense is spewed by Big Al, Obama, and the rest, you and I, and all our children have as much right to this planet’s resources as beavers, spotted owls, and cave dwellers in the “developing” world. And I am certainly not willing to cripple what’s left of American industry, double my gasoline and electricity costs, and pay a tax on the carbon dioxide I exhale everyday on the basis of a demonstrably fraudulent myth called global warming.
